5/4/17 Website Reflection

  • Reflect on your experience with Weebly or Wix.  Did you enjoy building your own website?  Did you find it easy, hard, etc...  Now that you know these free/low cost options exist, would you use a tool like this to create a website in the future?
  • After reviewing the websites of 10 of your classmates, reflect on your TWO favorites
    • Why did you like these websites so much?

I first used Weebly but I had trouble with it so I switched to Wix and it was a lot easier to use. I enjoyed building my own website because I could pick whatever I wanted and I was able to make it look like what I wanted. After switching to Wix I thought that making the website was very easy and I like how the both offered several different layout options. In the future if I ever need to make a website I would definitely use Wix because it was very easy to do.

I thought Bryn D and Maddie B's website were the best out of the ones I looked at because they were very colorful and very well organized.

4/27/17 Website Selection

Have you ever created a website before?  If yes, what technology did you use?  HTML, Weebly, Wix, etc.?  Tell me about your experience....  then continue below

I have never created a website before. I have used websites created by people, my Spanish teacher and modern world teacher have used weebly to create their own websites and they are very easy to use. They have their own website linked to their page on the Blue Valley Website. I haven't ever had the need to create a website before but I'm excited to learn because it seems like a really useful thing to know how to do. I chose to use weebly because I thought that all the layouts that they first showed were really nice and creative. I've seen teachers use it before and I think it will be really easy to figure out. They offer many different styles of websites and also great examples to showcase the creativity that the website offers. I am doing my project for the Blue Valley Girls Soccer program.

Blog Post: 4/18 Favorite New Apps

Using your notes sheet from our class "App Investigation" presentations last week, select FIVE apps that you do NOT currently use, but now might download.  Create a table with the following information & include it in your blog post.

Please also include a reflection on the project overall.  Did you enjoy this project?  Why/Why not?

Reflection:

I enjoyed this project because I liked how we were allowed to choose our own topic. I think it allowed students to be creative with their choices and learn new stuff. I also liked how only one person in each class could only do each app because then the presentations weren't repetitive and the information was always new. I also liked that most of the apps were relevant to students and their everyday life. Overall, I liked the project a lot and would recommend it to others because it had little restrictions and allowed everyone to do their own thing.

4/13 Online Forms/Surveys

So you've used Google Drive for Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc... but, have you ever used Google Drive to create a form?  Do you even know what this means?  For this blog post, first answer the two questions I just asked... Then, tell me about your experience with survey-generating software.  Have you used any?  If so, which one(s)?

I have never used Google Drive to create a form before. I have used Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, but I've never really heard about Google Forms. I don't know what it means and I don't know what it is suppose to do. I think I have used a survey before but it has been a while. I don't know how to use them but I could see how it could have multiple uses. With this project I hope to learn how to utilize Google Forms and be able to use it for future school projects.

4/4/17 Apps

How often do you utilize applications "apps" on your phone/tablet to make your life easier or more convenient?  Can you imagine life without "apps"?  How would your daily life be different if "apps" did not exist?

I use apps on my phone whenever I use my phone and they always make things easier. I can not imagine life without apps because they are so easy to use. Their are apps for everything you need, and they are super easy to get. I think that without apps phones would be a lot simpler. Phones wouldn't be as customized for individual use and I don't think everyone would be able to customize their phone the way they like, like they can now. Without apps I think that we wouldn't be able to do all the things that we can do now on our phones.

4/3/17 My Weekend

Tell me all about your weekend.  Did you go to the movies, shopping, to Prom, etc.  Remember to use at least 5 complete sentences in your response.

This weekend I spent time with my friends. We went to someone's house and we talked and watched Netflix. We watched a horror movie about zombies, I didn't really like the movie it was kind of boring and it wasn't very scary. Sunday I ran a bunch of errands for my parents. I also had to drive my sister and her friend around, and when I dropped her off at her house I got to play with her dogs. Sunday night I did all of my homework and watched Vampire Diaries.

3/31 NCAA Reflection

What have you learned by competing in our class NCAA basketball competition? Had you filled out a bracket prior to this class?  Did you follow any of the games during the tournament out of curiosity?  What have you learned about Google Docs & Sheets by creating your bracket & spreadsheet with them?

The bracket we filled out in class was the second one i filled out, I filled on out for the entire tournament for a family competition. My family has a competition every year and we all put in $5 and whoever wins gets the money. I only followed the games that KU played because I'm a KU fan, and I didn't really follow any other games. By using Google docs I learned that it is really easy to create similar things like a bracket and that it's really easy to access and share with others. I also learned that Google Sheets is really similar to Excel and the way it does things.

3/30/17 New Movies

I never get out anymore & need ideas for great some movies or a TV Series to watch in my free time. What is the best movie(s) you have seen in the past year.  Is there a TV Series that I just HAVE to see? What is the genre of the movie(s) you are recommending (I don't like horror...). Convince me that your movie(s) and/or TV Series suggestions are ones that I should see immediately, but don't give the plot away.  GO! :-)

I just recently started watching Vampire Diaries and I think that it is a really good show that has an exciting plot and interesting characters. I think that Vampire Diaries is a good show because the story is very original and entertaining to watch and I like how the characters are developed really well. would definitely recommend this show, but probably to just girls because their is romance in the series. I would also recommend Grey's Anatomy because it is a really cool and engaging show that has very likable characters and its a very original series that I enjoy watching a lot. It is believable but it still has a lot that happens which keeps the story interesting and never boring.

3/21 Spring Break

Tell me all about your spring break!  What did you do (not do), where did you go (not go), and how did you spend your week off.  Include at least 2 pictures!!

Over spring break I stayed in Kansas and spent time with my family. I went to lunch with my great aunt and shopping with my grandparents. I also went out a lot with my parents and sister. I also had soccer practice over the break so I went to those. I exercised a little bit and went to the gym too. I went to the Sporting KC game and they won, and that was really fun because we went up their really early and we bought a couch and then did some shopping at the legends, and ate dinner their. And Sporting KC won and after we got to go down into the tunnel with all the players. Overall I had a really good spring break because even though I didn't go anywhere it was really nice to not have school and do whatever I wanted for a little while.

3/02/17 Infographic Peer Feedback

Provide me with a quick overview of the student Infographics you viewed for this assignment.  In your reflection to me, provide the student name & 1-2 things you liked/learned by looking at their infographic. Finally, did you enjoy this project?

Zach O- I liked how the colors coordinated with the soda, and I learned that Pepsi had more calories.
Jackson H- I liked all the pictures and I learned that Lincolns have the highest customer satisfaction.
Grace E- I like the color and organizastion, and I learned that goggles normally cost about $11.
Maddie B- I liked all the colors and how proffessional it looked, and I learned that on average Americans consume 3600 calories per day.
Clayton G- I liked the colors, and I learned that K-State has a 9-4 record.
Brandon N- I liked the colors and how informative it was, I learned that it is very easy and simple to make an infographic.

I enjoyed this project because it allowed us to be creative and research whatever we wanted. It was interesting to see what everyone came up with.

2/27/17 - Infographic Reflection

What have you learned about Infographics?  Did you enjoy creating your own? (please explain). When might you use an Infographic in your school work, personal life, or other?  Which Infographic site did you use?  Was the site easy to navigate? Would you use it again or look for another site?

I have learned that Infographics present information in a way that is visually appealing and easy to understand. They can be really long or they can be really short. Some infographics have a lot of words while some explain information more with pictures. I liked creating my own because I got to choose whatever I wanted and their was no limit, I struggled with how I wanted to organize mine because their were so many options. But I liked how personalized you could make it. Infographics can be very useful in school activities like when you have to present something but don't want to just read a powerpoint word for word. In someones job it can be useful because its a fun and different way of presenting. I thought the site was easy to navigate and everything was organized well. I would use that site again because I enjoyed working with it.

Infographic 2/23/17

Today we will begin using online tools to create what is called an "Infographic".
Take your time & conduct some research on infographics.
  • What is an infographic?
  • What is the purpose of an infographic?
  • What type of information is best displayed in an infographic?
  • How can an infographic help convey your message to an audience?
  • How might you use an infographic in your class assignments?
Find 2 examples of infographics that you think are very cool/useful to you.  Post the infographics on your blog & make sure to cite where you found them.

An infographic is an image used to represent information or data. I can often be a chart or diagram that helps convey the topic. Infographs take a sometimes boring or confusing topic and turn it into something interesting that everyone can understand. Infographs use less words so that it is easier to understand while still efficiently explaining the information. Any information can be in a infograph. The information is not limited and you can choose whatever you want infographs can have a wide range of information on it. Infographics can be useful in conveying a message because they are a lot more appealing looking than an article. Most people respond better to visual learning, so an infograph with a bunch of picture will be more appealing than an article with a bunch of words in it. In a class assignment if I needed to present a lot of information I could create a infograph and explain the topic to the class using the pictures instead of reading a paper. Infographs can also help teach difficult information that I might need in a class.

2/21/17 Canva vs. Lucid Press

Now that you have been exposed to two online design programs, write a 5-10 sentence reflection on your thoughts on both of them.
  • Which one was the easiest to join & use?
  • Provide 2 pros/cons of using both Canva & Lucid Press
  • In your opinion, which program created the nicest, trendiest documents?
  • Which program provided the most "free" features?
  • Overall, which one did you like the most? Explain...

Canva and Lucid were both easy design programs that I thought were easy to use. I thought Lucid was easier to join and use because I forgot my password and it was really easy to get a new one and the templates are really easy to use and I it was easy to start my account. I thought that Lucid organized their templates better because they gave you a bunch of different options on the right and you could find whatever one you wanted. I also liked how Canvas let you customize your own template, but the thing I didn't like about both of the websites was that they were both hard to figure out how to save it and be able to use it somewhere else. I think Canva provided more free features, I don't know for sure but to me it looked like it offered a lot more. I liked Lucid Press better because i liked how it was organized and I was able to customize it to look however I wanted it.

2/18 My Dream Business

Think of a business that you would love to start or run.  Tell me about your business idea, where you would locate your business, what goods or services you would provide, etc., etc....

If I could run a business I would choose to run an ice cream shop. I would make it in Florida by the beach so that I could be at the beach all day. I would sell all kinds of ice cream, ice cream sandwiches with homemade cookies, and I would also do that rolled ice cream that is done at Freezing Moo. I would call my business Maggie's Ice cream Place.

12/14/17 3 canvas

This is a post card and I could use this if I went on vacation and wanted to send people back in Kansas a card saying that me and my family were having a good time.

This is a thank you card and I could use it to send to people that might have gotten me a gift and I wanted to show my appreciation, or just sending out to people to say thank you.
This is a business card and I could use this for any kind of business that I wanted to start, if I wanted to start babysitting I could give these to people and it would have my phone number on it and all my important information.

2/13/17

Tell me about your Sweetheart weekend.  Did you attend the game at Southwest?   How about the dance?  If you didn't go to sweetheart, what did you do?  Please attach a picture or 2 from your phone that tells me about your weekend.

This weekend I went to sweetheart with some friends. I thought the dance was okay we didn't stay for long and after we went to a friends house and said hi for a while and then we went back to one of the girls in our group's house for the rest of the night. On Sunday I didn't really do anything in the morning. My sister made me chocolate chip pancakes and my parents bought a new coach for the patio. In the afternoon I went shopping with my friend and she got new shoes and a new shirt and I got a few new necklaces.

2/10/17 - ET Course Reflection & Personal Report Card

Part 1: Open up Synergy & check your grades for this course.  Please use this time to reflect on your progress in Emerging Technology class so far:
  1. Do you have all of your assignments turned in?  If no, what is your plan for completing them?
  2. Are you receiving "5's" on all daily blog posts.  If no, what are you missing? (Fix what is missing & let me know when you would like me to re-grade your post)
  3. Check your Current Event score.  Did you receive a 10/10.  If not, open up your Current Event & determine what you are missing.  Now, explain to me what you omitted & how you will ensure you receive full points on the next current event.
  4. Overall, how do you feel you are doing in Emerging Technology class.  Is the class hard? easy?
  5. What have you learned so far this semester that you did not know prior to class?
All of my assignments are turned in. I am receiving all 5's on my blog posts. I received a 5/5 on my current event. I feel like I am doing well in emerging technology. I think it is a pretty easy class as long as you keep up with the work that is given, which is not that much. This semester I learned what social bookmarking was and how people use it.

Part 2: Now, if you could make your own report card, what imaginary subjects would earn you an "A"?  In what subjects would you not do so well....
  • Using Canva.com, create a free account & find a design to use for your report card
  • Come up with 5-7 items (or more) in which you will be graded on
  • Post your completed report card graphic on your blog when you are finished!

2/9/17 Kids these Days

Kids these days are always on their cell phone. I can not find one kid that doesn't have a cell phone in their hand, up to their ear, or in the pocket. Kids also are always inside, they never go outside to appreciate the outdoors and the fresh air. They also listen to weird music, people just talk and play music in the background and they are automatically a famous singer. Kids also don't have a clue how to talk to people, especially adults. I can't have a normal conversation with a kid unless I text them because they don't know how to talk to people in person without hiding behind their cell phone. I've also noticed that kids eat a lot of junk food, they don't try hard to eat healthy, kids are always at fast food restaurants of eating microwaved food.

2/6 Collaborating Remotely Reflection

Reflect on your experience completing this partner project.  Was it hard to work with your partner without talking?  Can you imagine conducting business in this way on a regular basis?  What did you learn from this experience?

I thought this project was very easy to do. Working with my partner was easy to do, with all the kinds of technology that we can use communicating with them was very simple and easy to do. I can see doing this on a regular basis for a job but I think it would start to get boring because you never really come into contact with people you're always behind and screen, which could get very boring. I learned that technology offers many different ways to communicate with people therefore making it very easy.

2/2/17

In this picture I was going on a walk with my dog and it was fun because I didn't put her on a leash and just let her walk wherever she wanted and it was really nice outside.

This picture was from the summer and I was at the pool with my friends and I was just really happy because it was summer and I didn't have to stress about anything.

This is a picture of my sister cheering for her middle school and that was early in the school year so I didn't have a lot of homework and it was still warm outside and it was fun to watch her cheer for the football team.

1/31/17 ted talk

  • Do you agree with the Ted Talk?  Why or why not?  Will you change any of your current behaviors as a result of listening to this talk?  What impact do you think this digital age will have on society in the future?  Link your completed video guide to your post
I agree with the Ted Talk because I feel like technology is a huge part in our lives right now and I have noticed it affecting us negatively. I will be more aware of the time I use technology after watching the video and I'll look into other things that I could be doing instead of being on my phone, or on my computer, or watching TV. I think this digital age will impact the future because it will shape whether we make a change with technology right now and how we use it, or if we let it completely take over our lives and we'll never be able to live without technology.

BLOG POST: 2/01/16 Words for Teenagers
Read this small newspaper clipping and then write a blog post about it. What are your thoughts? How does it make you feel? Do you agree? Disagree? Explain yourself in at least 5 sentences.

I think this article sends a good message to those who are looking for more excitement in their life. I agree with it in a way because I do feel like we should be doing something productive with our life and trying to help the community and the environment as well. The article made me feel like finding some new hobby that I've never done before. I agree because we can not always count on others to make fun for ourselves. I like the message that it sends by telling people to go do something and  have fun instead of waiting for the fun to come to you.

  • Do you have a different understanding of Social Bookmarking after reading this article
  • Do you think social bookmarking is a helpful & beneficial tool
  • Did you learn about any new social bookmarking sites that you would like to start using?
After reading my article I now understand that social bookmarking can be used to benefit others when bookmarking something yourself. For instance, if someone creates a blog and they bookmark something on their, it can definitely be useful for them but is can also benefit anyone else that sees the blog and the information. I think that social bookmarking is a very beneficial tool because it allows easier and quicker access to websites that are needed for specific things. I learned about Symbaloo and I thought that it was a very useful bookmarking website because I liked how it organized things and it seemed very useful for day to day activities. I also liked how Symbaloo allowed you to view other pages that people had created with information that could possibly be useful to you, instead of taking a lot of time and creating one yourself.

1/26/17

Blog Post: 1/26/17  Reflect on your recent experience with bookmarking within Chrome & Symbaloo.  Compare & contrast these two bookmarking options.  Which one did you like the best? Is there a time when one would be better than the other?

Both Chrome and Symbaloo are very similar because they both allow you to get to specific websites really fast. Chrome is much more straight forward with the bookmarks, they are easily placed and don't require any options for colors or symbols. Symbaloo does the same but focuses more on making the bookmarks more creative, you are given the option to change the color and at pictures to the link. Symbaloo focuses primarily on the links whereas Chrome just has them as an extra option. I liked Chrome better because I thought that it was a lot more simpler to do and I thought that I was able to access the sites faster than with Symbaloo.

1/24/17 Introduction to Social Bookmarking

What is Social Bookmarking? What is the purpose of Social Bookmarking? What Social Bookmarking tools do you use?  How did you learn about or choose to use the social bookmarking tools that you use?  What Social Bookmarking tools would you suggest to others? (If needed: feel free to spend a little time on the Internet before you complete this post)

I have no idea what social bookmarking is, but Google says that it is an online service that allows people to edit and share bookmarks of web documents. I have never used social bookmarking for anything. This is the firs time that I have heard of it. I have learned from the internet that people can bookmark certain websites that they find and send them to people. People can also comment and vote on social bookmarks.

Tell me about your weekend in 5 sentences or more.

Over the weekend I had three outdoor soccer games. The first one we lost and my team and I played really bad. The next two we played much better and won, one 3-0, and the other 2-0. Saturday night I spent time with my friends in my basement. Then Sunday afternoon after my last soccer game I relaxed at my house and did my homework.

1/17/17 Prezi Reflection

  • Now that you have created a presentation using PREZI, take a moment to compare & contrast your experience compared to the more traditional presentation tool of Power Point.
    • Which tool do you think is easier to use? Why?
    • Which tool creates the more effective presentations? Explain.
    • Is there a specific presentation time when one tool would be better than the other? Explain.
    • Which tool would you choose to use the next time you create a presentation?

I think PowerPoint is easier to use because it has a similar format to other tools like Word and Excel. I think very professional presentations would use a Power point because it has a cleaner look than Prezi, which is a more fun and allows you to be more creative. I think PowerPoint makes the most effective presentations because it does a good job of presenting the information and keeping the focus on the information. With Prezi their is a possibility that the movements and animations could be a distraction from the important information being presented. I will probably choose PowerPoint because I know how to use it a lot better than Prezi. But I do like Prezi, it is a break from the normal PowerPoint that most people use.
